OPTIMA
Optimisation of Policies for Transport Integration in Metropolitan Areas
Start Date: 1995-12-01
End Date: 1997-05-31
Project-Status: completed
In order to carry out a process which finds a (city-specific) optimal set of transport policies, two objective functions have been constructed: one related to economic efficiency and the other to sustainability. A common set of transport measures has been identified that could be used in any metropolitan area in Europe including nine case study cities:Edinburgh, Merseyside, Vienna, Eisenstadt, Helsinki, Turin, Salerno, Oslo and Tromso. Optimal transport policies, with respect to these measures and the objective functions, have been found for each city and the resulting transport packages have been compared across cities. Discussions are currently taking place with officers and politicians in the case study cities in order to assess the acceptability and feasibility of these packages
