The Objective:

The three year project attempts to gain an understanding for a sustainable development in periurban settlements of Indian's major cities.

The Challenge:

Urban settlements, especially large cities, draw heavily on natural resources from surrounding rural areas. If not properly managed, cities can generate wastes in a manner that can disturb physical, geochemical, and biological cycles of the ecosystem. It is imperative that the impacts of urbanisation on periurban natural resources must be understood to achieve sustainable settlements.

The Participation:

This project wants to bring together local communities, researchers, and responsible authorities at the local and national level to identify a set of policy options to achieve sustainable settlements. Thus, visit our Forum and participate in the discussion on various issues.
